Now...The short term forecast for western New York. Light rain continues to press northward across western New York this evening. Initially rain will be light to start...But as the evening progress rain will increase in intensity and become moderate to at Times heavy. At 5 pm rain had reached as far north as buffalo metro areas and the vicinity of batavia. New rainfall between 5 pm and 9 pm will range from around 0.15 inches across orleans...Genesee and Wyoming counties, and up to a third of an inch towards chautauqua county. As the rain becomes heavy later this evening expect areas of ponding water in poor drainage areas and low lying elevations. Also visibilities in rain as well as low clouds and fog will be greatly reduced later this evening. Motorists should be prepared for both bursts of heavier rain as well as limited visibilities overnight.
