Now...The short term forecast for western New York. At 715 am, mainly light snow covered most of the region. There are however, two bands of heavier lake effect snow off of lake erie impacting portions chautauqua, cattaraugus, and southern erie counties. The heaviest band stretched from fredonia to otto, to franklinville on the southern edge, and from lake erie beach to north collins, to delevan on the northern edge. Snowfall rates in this band May exceed 1 inch per hour in some locations, along with visibility reduced to 1/3 of a mile or less. Allow some extra time to reach your destination if you must travel through this band of heavier activity which is forecast to continue drifting slowly northward this morning. Across the entire region, be on the alert for slippery conditions, especially on any untreated surfaces.
