Now...Widespread rain will continue moving northeast across northeast Georgia and the western carolinas through the mid afternoon hours. A large area of moderate to heavy rain which has covered much of Georgia will move across the western carolinas this afternoon. Rainfall amounts of a quarter to a half inch per hour will be common under the heavier clusters of showers. A few thunderstorms are also possible this afternoon mainly over the piedmont. Some of the heaviest rainfall totals will be near the southern mountains from near clayton Georgia to tryon North Carolina where total rainfall for this event could exceed four inches. Streams and creeks will come out of their banks where the heaviest rain falls.
